Rock lobster fishery management

[QUOTE=The Fairy Godmother;22788]This might be controversial. So be it. Our industry has been tricked. Nothing can be disputed apparently. Cestlavie went into to bat for our rights and was also beaten. Not that you will lay down and die Cestlavie - thank God for that.
There are a few individuals who sincerely believe that our industry is in trouble. They so want to be in the purple circle they cannot think outside the square. Political handbags. Protecting their own interests i.e their income.
Fact - by 2011/12 when zero puerulus (3 to 4 years earlier i.e. 2008/09 settlement) exceeds the woeful predictions of that year, management will have mechanisms in place to make sure they are right. When the crays are again abundant dependent on conditions they will cry out "you are catching what was left in the water".
Someone and I guess it will be a true fisherman and not a bureaucrat who doesn't bother to go on the water will say to himself - see I was right.
The current Minister is calling the shots based on minority advice. He stands to look like a fool as he does now when he stupidly announces that he is protecting a $150 miilion dollar industry.
Is he not aware that this fishery was worth $300 million less than two years ago when he was voted into power?
No Minister I am not being critical of you. It would be your advisors whoever they are.
There are a lot of smart men in this fishery who are asking questions and who will ultimately demand an answer.
Be careful it is only a matter of 24 months before someone is proved right or wrong.
Don't meddle with nature.
Be very careful. The State Government is presenting its worst hand. It has virtually forced industry into addressing quota and in its questionable wisdom dismisses ITQ"s until 2014.
